appearance
Tawny is an strong, stocky girl with long, wild auburn hair and big blue eyes. She's a rough and tumble sort of gal that doesn't put much effort into her appearance or her style, rarely straying from the t-shirt + shorts + sneakers + (optional) beanie combo, and often has bruises and scrapes that reflect her reckless behavior. Occasionally, even a cast; sign please! She's loud and brash and overall has the vibe of someone that would call you dude and dare you to eat a bug/accept a dare to eat a bug.
Her most common accessory is a scarf or an oversized jacket, though she'll occasionally toss on cute, cheap jewelry (rings or necklaces, mostly) or paint her short nails (though this quickly chips). She doesn't really know how to do makeup beyond foundation and when she tries it looks a bit off.

personality
Tawny is a boisterous, impulsive girl that chases good times and excitement. She's drawn toward the rush of something novel or challenging or (unfortunately) dangerous; anything that will get her heart going a mile a minute and make her feel like she's doing something not everyone can do. What's the point of being alive if you're not going to feel alive, right? No risk, no reward, right? And she's a fairly resilient girl anyway, so she rarely has regrets. Generally upbeat and outgoing, she even approaches social situations with confidence and a certain amount of reckless abandon. She treats everyone like a buddy unless they're her sworn enemy and sometimes even then; holding onto grudges is annoying. That said, her friendship comes with minimal acknowledgment of personal boundaries and lots of playful roughhousing which can be a lot for some people. She doesn't intend to cross lines; she just doesn't stop long enough to notice the lines before she barrels over them.
Despite being a chaotic force of nature, Tawny can actually be disciplined when she wants to be. The proud daughter of a military father, she was always taught to be a hard-working straight shooter and to go after what she wants with gusto. So, when she wants something, she's more than capable of buckling down. She's a good student in the courses she cares about, tending to be near the top of her class, and she puts in the practice to always be improving in her hobbies like volleyball and skateboarding. While she is always competing with herself more than with those around her, at least in her own mind, she does like to win and when she's in direct competition with others she can be a bit of a show-off. All that said, she's accustomed to being fairly successful at most things and gets frustrated when she hits roadblocks and has her forward momentum interrupted. Especially when the circumstances are beyond her control. It's not fair when things just come down to dumb luck and there's nothing she can do about it. This doesn't mean that she'll give up, but it does mean that she might blow up and take it out on the objects or people around her until she cools down enough to accept things as they are.
Sorry, her bad. But it's cool, right?
While Tawny generally sees herself as an independent person, she does have a tendency to idolize people and put them on a pedestal. Once she does that, those people's opinions mean the world to her and she can be easily influenced by their words and actions. This mostly comes back to her dad, who she admires intensely and whose lessons she carries around with her everywhere in big ways and small ways. If you've ever wondered why she doesn't swear (oh heckin' heck!), it's because of her dad. If you've ever wondered why she has a tidy bedroom, complete with military corners on the bed, it's because of her dad. She does this with friends too, though, and it's not uncommon for her to pick up new habits or hobbies when she starts spending a lot of time with someone new. She'll deny this, though. She does what she wants when she wants!!

skills
athlete: Tawny is an active girl that spends a lot of time working out, playing sports, roughhousing, and just generally putting her body through its paces. As a result, she's in good shape and quite strong. She doesn't have a six pack but she does have visible abs and muscular arms and legs. Do you want to see them? Do you want to touch them? Touch them. She's also been playing volleyball and soccer since high school and she's an accomplished, fairly versatile player in both sports.
skateboarding: In addition to playing sports, Tawny spends a lot of her time skateboarding. She's fearless on her board, willing to take on just about any viable terrain, and can nail some cool tricks pretty consistently. That said, she's accustomed to pushing herself too far and taking tumbles, but doesn't really mind. Those bruises are just proof that she's out there pushing herself. People without bruises are probably cowards.
academic: While she might not seem like it, Tawny's actually quite bright and she knows how to work with her brain to get shit done. When she's invested in a topic she can buckle down and absorb a lot of information (and learn to apply that information) in a relatively short time. She's the type that can put things off to the last minute, go hard for one day, and come through the other side without an issue. In particular, she excels at mathematics and physics and can tackle many complex equations in her head. People that rely on calculators for everything are also probably cowards.
stylist?: Tawny doesn't know the first thing about fashion or makeup or any of that. But she does know how to do some ridiculously intricate braids; mostly because of a fussy older sister. While she rarely does these for herself, she can be convinced to do them for others without too much prodding. She's pretty sure this knowledge also makes her an expert with knots, but it...doesn't.

history
history
Tawny was born in Oklahoma on the Vance Air Force Base, the daughter of a young recruit and his homemaker (and aspiring novelist!) wife. The middle of three children, she was an energetic handful from the moment she was born and grew up terrorizing her much more grounded older sister, getting into mischief with her devious younger brother, and exhausting her mild-mannered mom. There were lots of reckless mistakes, lots of skinned knees, and lots of broken rules, but things always worked out in the end. While her dad was often gone because of his work, when he was around, the two were a couple of boisterous, adventurous peas in a pod. She was a complete daddy's girl and idolized him, taking everything he said to heart and everything he did as an example.
As many military families do, Tawny's moved around a lot throughout her childhood. Sometimes these moves took them somewhere distant and exciting like Germany or Singapore, but more often they were just hopping from one American base to another while her father gained experience and climbed through the ranks. Either way, Tawny liked the constantly changing scenery and the unfamiliar faces and the new aircrafts she got to gawk at flying overhead. During these years, she grew into a bold, attention-seeking extrovert and was never short on friends or things to do no matter where they went. While she always knew that she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and daydreamed about flying all her life, it was eventually broken to her when she was ten that she'd never be able to because of her vision. She had Tritanopia (a form of blue-yellow color blindness) and wouldn't ever qualify to even fly a commercial plane, let alone fly in the Air Force. This broke her heart and felt horribly unfair; she spent weeks throwing tantrums and going through a sort of mourning before finally accepting her fate. She refused to let bad luck keep her down.
Life continued on for several more years until Tawny was fourteen and her parents announced they would be getting a divorce. While Tawny hadn't seen it coming and was aggressively against it, her mother had been unhappy for a long time with the military spouse lifestyle and felt bored and trapped and (worst of all) like there was no romance in her life. Gross, mom. The separation happened quickly. Because of her dad's hectic working life, her mother was given primary custody of all the kids and the family settled for the next handful of years in a small town in rural Oklahoma. While being away from her dad even more killed her and she found their new home intolerably dull at first, the move wasn't all bad. She was able to become involved in sports at school, excelling at both volleyball and soccer. She formed a bit of a kinship with one of her mathematics teachers because of her natural talent in the subject and ended up getting ropped into becoming a Mathlete. Spending time with that teacher and her Mathlete peers also helped her figure out what she wanted to do: become an Engineer. Maybe her dumb broken eyes wouldn't let her fly planes, but fuck you Fate, she could make planes! It was the first time she had a clear image of her future that wasn't flying and it got her pumped.
By the time Tawny was ready to graduate, her mother had a lame new husband and had become a published romance novelist (her debuting novel was called A Hundred Gardenias -- gross, mom) and she was more than ready to escape from the whole situation. Go somewhere new. Knowing what she wanted to study and that she had an uncle in Washington, she ended up applying to Hopestill College. Since going off to school, she's done well in her studies, busted her tail to get on the volleyball team, partied hard with ΡΓΓ, and made some buds. All pretty typical college stuff. Until this semester, anyway...
